A Message from The 2010 Captain

When I received the phone call asking me if I would consider becoming Captain of Arrowe Park Golf Club I felt a mix of emotions. The first was one of pride. To become part of the history of such an established club is such an honour. The second emotion was one of humility. When I look at the members and consider what great golfers they are, but more importantly, what wonderful people they are, to be chosen to represent them for the year made me wonder what I had done to deserve the accolade – I could think of many more deserving of the honour.

So it is with huge gratitude to the Past Captains and members that I take the position of Club Captain. I will try my best to represent you all well. I won’t get everything right (consider – I don’t even hold a golf club properly!), but hopefully you will look back on my year and say ‘He was OK that Checkley fella’.

May I also thank our Past Captain, Ken Williams, for ‘apprenticing’ me so well this year. He has always guided me with care, thought and patience – he’s a hard act to follow.
